OREANDA-NEWS On 28 October 2016 the senate of the University of Tartu appointed five nominees of the university as members to the council.The appointed members of the new council are: The senate appointed the council members by secret vote. First, the vote for nominating the candidates presented by the four faculties was held.

Then, appointing the fifth member of the council, nominated by members of the senate, was voted. To appoint a member, more than a half of the members attending the voting had to vote for the candidate. During the vote for nominating each member of the council, a member of the senate could only vote for one candidate at a time.

The Council of the University of Tartu is composed of eleven members, five of whom are nominated by the senate, five by the minister of education and research, and one by the Estonian Academy of Sciences.
