President Petro Poroshenko: "Novorossiya" project failed
OREANDA-NEWS "Since the beginning of the military aggression against my nation, Russia’s goal was to divide Ukraine in pieces. The project of Novorossiya included 9 regions of Ukraine. This project totally failed", President Petro Poroshenko said in the press conference in Georgia.
He noted that the military forces of Ukraine had stopped the aggression of Russia on the touch line. The President reminded that when he had been elected President, the majority of Donbas had been occupied and the Ukrainian military had liberated two thirds of Donbas in summer of 2014.
"You must understand that Zakharchenko, Plotnitskiy are not political figures. They are the puppet show that broadcasts messages from Russia," President Petro Poroshenko said.
The President emphasized that the Minsk agreements are unique. Unfortunately, Georgia does not have Russia’s signature under the obligation to withdraw troops, cease fire, liberate hostages and ensure access for the OSCE to the occupied territories.
“For three years, the world has been not punishing, but motivating Russia to sit down at the table of negotiations. Russia is trying to blackmail with a danger of recognition of independence of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk Republics under the Abkhazian scenario. But do people of the occupied Abkhazia feel happy? To my mind, there is a humanitarian disaster,” the President said. According to Petro Poroshenko, Georgia successfully implements reforms. “The same situation is in Ukraine. We have a humanitarian crisis in the occupied territories, a high level of unemployment, disastrous situation in the healthcare and educational spheres,” the Head of State noted.
Petro Poroshenko is confident that the only way out is to implement the Minsk agreements and withdraw Russian troops and artillery. “We are hopeful for the reintegration of Donbas and Crimea and restoration of Ukrainian sovereignty over those territories,” he emphasized.
