President Kaljulaid to embark on a state visit to the Republic of Georgia
OREANDA-NEWS President Kersti Kaljulaid and Georgi-Rene Maksimovski will today embark on a state visit to the Republic of Georgia, accompanied by a business delegation of 33 members.
During the three day visit, the Estonian Head of State will meet in Tbilisi with the President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Catholicos Patriarch of all Georgia, Ilia II, and the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze.
The meetings will focus on long-term co-operation between Estonia and Georgia in the sphere of defence and education and bilateral relations within the European Union Eastern Partnership Programme. The general goal of the visit is to enhance economic co-operation between the two countries; a Georgian-Estonian business forum will take place on the second day of the visit and the first stage of a real estate investment by Estonian entrepreneurs will be opened.
In addition, President Kaljulaid will visit the women's shelter in Tbilisi, meet with non-government organisations related to development co-operation programme, take part in introducing Estonian-UNICEF joint project at Tbilisi Secondary School No. 150 and visit Tserovani School and the European Union observation mission in Georgia. The President of the Republic will place a wreath at the Heroes Memorial at Heroes Square, Tbilisi, and a bouquet at the Monument of Victims of 1989.
Georgi-Rene Maksimovski, the husband of the President, will visit a Georgian Technology Park within the framework of a special programme and the Kakhetian region to meet the Governor.
On the final day of the visit, 2 November, President Kaljulaid and Georgi-Rene Maksimovski will travel to Kutaisi, the twin city of Tartu; the Head of State will meet there with the Mayor of Kutaisi and give a public speech at the University of Kutaisi. The Head of State will return to Estonia the same night.
The official delegation accompanying the President of the Republic will include the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Kadri Simson, Minister of Culture, Indrek Saar, Chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs of the Riigikogu, Marko Mihkelson, and a member of the Committee of European Affairs, Kalle Palling, Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces, Riho Terras, Rector of University of Tartu, professor Volli Kalm and, as a leader of the business delegation, Chairman of the Management Board of Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Toomas Luman.
