Volkswagen is Developing an Ambulance with Autopilot
OREANDA-NEWS. Volkswagen is considering the possibility of producing several modifications of the future serial electric car ID. Buzz with an automatic control system. At the ITS World Congress in Hamburg, dedicated to the development of transport systems of the future, the Germans presented the concept of an unmanned ambulance.
The published video shows a prototype based on the ID. Buzz model with a characteristic yellow-red-blue coloring of an ambulance. The car has no external controls, and the seat in the front is turned towards the interior with special equipment.
There are no details about the car yet. However, Volkswagen showed in the video other possible modifications of the unmanned ID. Buzz, including a mobile office on wheels, a delivery van and a taxi with autopilot. It is assumed that such cars will appear after 2025.
At the same time, at the Munich Motor Show in early September, Volkswagen spoke about the equipment and capabilities of such cars, when the Germans presented an unmanned minivan ID. Buzz AD, created jointly with the American developer of automatic control systems Argo AI.
A special module with a complex of sensors, radars, video cameras, microphones and LiDAR optical rangefinder was installed on the roof of the concept car. The latter provides a constant all-round view. According to the developers, the system is able to see "every photon at a distance of up to 400 meters." Artificial intelligence can predict various scenarios of behavior of other road users, including cyclists and pedestrians.
