OREANDA-NEWS. Already this month, the shipyard in Helsinki, owned by United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), will become the property of a company associated with Russian businessmen. The Board of Directors will be headed by the ex-deputy minister of transport. The press service of the shipyard in the capital of Finland reported that on May 9 the terms of sale of the Arctech Helsinki Shipyard OSK to Algador Holdings Ltd. were finalized. The transaction will be closed this month, after which Helsinki Shipyard Oy will be created, which will be engaged in the construction of ships in Helsinki.

Algador Holdings is owned by the beneficiaries of the Nevsky Shipyard in Shlisselburg, Vladimir Kasyanenko and Rishat Bagautdinov. The chairman of the board of directors in the new company will be the former deputy minister of transport of Russia, Viktor Olersky. He has already promised that all previously concluded contracts with the Helsinki shipyard will remain in force, and the main task will be the construction of large-capacity icebreakers and cruise liners.

Earlier, the newspaper Kommersant reported that USC decided to sell the shipyard, since since 2014 it has been under American sanctions. The source of the publication in the Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that USC negotiated with Russian investors in order to “preserve and use the shipyard in the interests of Russia”.

The shipyard in Helsinki was established in 1865, when Finland was part of the Russian Empire. In the past 30 years, she has repeatedly changed owners, belonged to companies from Norway and South Korea. In 2011, USC entered its capital, which two years later became the sole owner. In open sources of information about the financial results of the shipyard for 2018, there is no, however, according to the Finnish registry, in 2016 the company's loss amounted to 87.5 million euros, turnover - 117 million euros.
