US Nuclear Submarine with Cruise Missiles Approached the Shores of Greece
OREANDA-NEWS In the Mediterranean Sea, the American nuclear submarine USS Georgia, equipped with 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of 1.6 thousand km, approached the shores of Greece. This was reported by Russian media Interfax with reference to the data of the 6th operational fleet of the United States.
According to the navy, it is currently located near the Souda Bay base, located in the north of the Greek island of Crete. It is noted that from this positional area, Crimea and the southern part of Ukraine are in the range of the submarine's cruise missiles.
An American carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman also continues to operate in the Adriatic region. There are about 90 deck planes and helicopters on board the ship, including four squadrons of 48 F/A-18 fighter-bombers.
The American military attache was previously summoned to the Russian Defense Ministry when it became known that a Virginia-type nuclear submarine was discovered in the area of the planned exercises of the Pacific Fleet forces (Pacific Fleet) near the island of Urup of the Kuril Ridge. The crew of the submarine was warned about possible consequences in Russian and English, but ignored the demands from Russia.
