U.S. Proposes to Mitigate Possible Consequences of Ban on Insurance of Ships Carrying Russian Oil

OREANDA-NEWS The United States suggests mitigating the possible consequences of the ban on insurance of vessels carrying Russian oil, the Financial Times reports, according to Gazeta.ru.
According to the newspaper, a ban on the insurance of vessels carrying Russian oil has been agreed to by Brussels and may come into force in the next six months. According to Washington, such a measure could deprive many shipowners of the right to transport Russian oil, given that the industry is dominated by the European insurance industry. The U.S. believes it could lead to a sharp rise in hydrocarbon prices.
It is reported that earlier Washington offered to insure tankers with Russian oil at a price below a certain value. However, this idea was controversially perceived by European officials.
US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman said that the US and Europe are now negotiating to make the restrictions as constructive as possible and to further harm Russia, but not the European countries and the rest of the world.
