OREANDA-NEWS. Finnish health authorities have identified more than 10 cases of coronavirus infection on the container ship Valencia Express under the flag of Bermuda. The ship arrived from St. Petersburg, Russian media «TASS» reports.

On the cargo ship «Valencia Express», which arrived on April 30 from St. Petersburg to the port of Vuosaari, 11 cases of coronavirus infection among the crew were detected, the agency quotes the Helsinki administration.

The institution added, that the infected were isolated, and one of the infected was hospitalized. In addition, those they came in contact with are quarantined on the ship. All crew members passed the coronavirus test on May 2. A total of 24 people were on the container ship. Before arriving in the Russian Federation, the ship was located in the Netherlands.

Earlier it was reported, that a new strain of SARS-CoV-2, similar to the South African variety, was detected in Finland, neighboring the Russian Federation. Cases of infection with the new strain have been reported among students in Turku, a city in the south-west of the country. The new variant of the virus may be more contagious, as there has been a recent spike in the incidence of the disease in Turku. At the same time, none of those who found a new strain did not need hospitalization.
