OREANDA-NEWS Six out of ten Russians support the introduction of speed limits for electric scooters and an age limit for their drivers, a survey by the SuperJob service for RIA Novosti showed.
The deputies of United Russia proposed to limit the speed of electric scooters and electric bicycles to 15 km/h, to prohibit travel on pedestrian streets, as well as to use these vehicles for people under 18 years of age.
"59% of Russians were in favor of the proposed measures, convinced that this will help reduce the number of road accidents involving electric scooters. Every fourth person (26%) opposes such regulation," the survey showed, in which 1,600 respondents took part.
The respondents argue their position in different ways: according to 17%, the designated measures are too tough ("You can't ban teenagers anyway - it would be reasonable to reduce the age limit to 14 years"), while 9% consider them too soft ("15 km/h is high speed!").
The proposed restrictions are more often supported by women (67% vs. 54% among men). There are more supporters of these regulatory measures among parents than among childless (64% vs. 56%). At the same time, respondents under the age of 34 share the opinion about the excessive prohibitions twice as often as the older generation (27% vs. 13%).
