The Russian Embassy Responded to the Pentagon's Statements on the British Destroyer
OREANDA-NEWS. The Russian Embassy in the United States called the statements of the Pentagon spokesman in connection with the incident with the British destroyer Defender in the Black Sea as unsubstantiated.
Earlier, the press secretary of the US military department, John Kirby, said that, according to information from London, the data on warning shots for the destroyer is "Russian disinformation."
"A picture of what happened was posted by the Russian FSB in the public domain," the Russian embassy said on Twitter.
As the diplomatic missions added, the "denial of the obvious" by the United States suggests that the Pentagon "continues to be under illusions about the real situation in and around the Russian Crimea."
The head of the Crimean parliamentary committee on people's diplomacy and interethnic relations, Yuri Gempel, criticized the position of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in connection with the incident.
Earlier Johnson called the passage of the British destroyer "quite appropriate", saying that the ship was moving in Ukrainian territorial waters. In addition, he stressed that London does not recognize the annexation of the peninsula.
"The position of the British Prime Minister on shipping in the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea is a dangerous game that can lead to rather serious conflicts, which will then be very difficult to settle through diplomatic means," Gempel said.
He noted that Russia understands the danger of an escalation of the situation, therefore, in response, "no tough measures were taken." However, the parliamentarian warned against further provocations on the state border, adding that the answer will not be long in coming.
