OREANDA-NEWS. When preparing a long-term development program for JSC Russian Railways until 2030, the possibility of building a highway to Magadan is also being considered. This became known from the statement of Oleg Belozerov, who is the head of Russian Railways.

“Today we are looking until 2035. In this time horizon, we, for example, would like to travel by rail to Magadan. Consider this issue. This is not a railway from point A to point B. We would like it to give an opportunity to open up territories with huge deposits of minerals, ”Belozerov said.

The head of Russian Railways did not give an estimate of the possible cost of the project. According to him, at present, Russian Railways experts are verifying all the numbers.

In August 2018, the governor of the Magadan region, Sergei Nosov, said that the regional authorities began to think about laying a railway. “It is possible to bring it here from Yakutia. I am sure that this would give a serious impetus to the development of the Magadan region, ”said Nosov.

However, in October 2018, the Russian Railways-Partner portal reported that the project for the construction of a railway line from Yakutsk to Magadan did not pass the selection by the Ministry of Economic Development "due to the lack of technical and economic indicators."
