OREANDA-NEWS. The international airport in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince is closed after the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. This is reported by the newspaper Haiti Libre. According to the media, the arriving planes are returning back.
Earlier it was reported that Jovenel Moise was fatally wounded as a result of an attack by unknown people on his residence. The incident occurred at about 01:00 local time. A group of intruders, some of whom spoke Spanish, broke into the private residence of the head of state. The country's authorities said that the situation is under the control of the National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. Measures are being taken to ensure the continuity of the State and protect the nation.
Later, Moise's wife died of her injuries in the hospital.
