Taliban Surrounded Kabul Airport with Checkpoints
OREANDA-NEWS. Taliban militants (banned in Russia) surrounded the Kabul international airport with their military checkpoints. Residents of Afghanistan fear that the militants may at any time ban them from leaving the country. This was reported by the Al-Arabiya TV channel.
In an interview with the TV channel, a high-ranking representative of the group said that the checkpoints located directly on the territory of the Hamid Karzai International Airport "are still under American control." The Taliban have established their checkpoints only along the outer perimeter of the facility.
They want to "ensure security and prevent the unorganized masses of people from breaking through." The main purpose of these events is to avoid a repeat of the panic that occurred at the airport and led to the death of people.
On August 15, after the capture of Kabul by the Taliban militants, panic broke out in the city. Afghans, presumably having previously collaborated with coalition forces, tried to escape by grabbing onto the landing gear of the plane. After the plane took off, people could not resist and fell to the ground. In total, at least 12 people died at the Kabul airport, about 30 were injured.
