OREANDA-NEWS The South Korean military is conducting a safety check of aircraft based on the Boeing 737-800 and also on its model against the background of the crash of an aircraft of this model of Jeju Air on December 29, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of the Republic of Korea reported.
"Yesterday, the South Korean Ministry of Defense ordered special security measures at all levels of units to prevent possible incidents involving Boeing aircraft and other aircraft. As part of this initiative, it was instructed to conduct independent safety checks of all fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft in service with the armed forces," Lee Song-jung, a representative of the ROC, explained at a briefing.
It is reported that the Navy will inspect its aircraft by Saturday, including the P-8A maritime patrol aircraft based on the Boeing 737-800 commercial jet. In July, the Navy completed the acquisition of six P-8A Poseidon naval reconnaissance aircraft to enhance its anti-submarine capabilities.
The Air Force has also begun testing its aircraft, including the Peace Eye long-range radar detection and control aircraft, modeled after the Boeing 737-700 commercial aircraft.
