OREANDA-NEWS. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during the talks in Sochi on Wednesday agreed to continue work on resuming charter flights between the countries. This was reported to the Russian media by the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov. "Joint work to resume air traffic will be continued in order to eventually reach a specific date", he said. "Both sides are interested in this".
In turn, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Yevgeny Dietrich, responding to a question from the Russian media about how the leaders held talks on resuming charter air travel, said: "Constructively".
Air traffic between the Russian Federation and Egypt was completely interrupted in November 2015 after the crash of the plane of the Russian airline Kogalymavia over Sinai, flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. On board were 217 passengers and seven crew members, all of whom died. The FSS qualified the incident as a terrorist attack. In January 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree to resume regular air traffic to Cairo. The first flight from Moscow took place on April 11 last year.
