President of Ukraine Offered to Brazil to Restore Space Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during a meeting with Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro in Tokyo proposed to restart a joint space project connected with using the Brazilian Alcantara space center.
“During the meeting, the prospects for cooperation in the space sphere were also discussed. Kiev proposed restarting a joint space project linked with using the Alcantara cosmodrome,” a statement on the Ukrainian President’s website says.
In addition, the leaders of two countries spoke about the matters concerning economy and trade. “We will carry out a large-scale privatization, nowadays we are presenting a lot of projects that demonstrate that it is profitable to invest in Ukraine. I believe that we must build powerful relations between Ukraine and Brazil indeed,” Zelensky stated.
Besides, Bolsonaro invited his counterpart to Brazil and accepted his invitation to visit Ukraine in 2020.
In July 2016, Brazil notified Ukraine of the withdrawal from the joint project concerning Tsyklon rocket. Tsyklon-4 is a joint project of Brazil and Ukrainian space rocket industry, which includes a launch vehicle and a ground-based complex.
Next year, the Brazilian authorities expressed their willingness to negotiate with the United States of America on the use of the Alcantara Launch Center in Brazilian state of Maranhao after a failure in cooperation with Ukraine regarding the use of the Tsyklon-4 launch vehicle which led to the loss of at least 1.5 billion Brazilian reals (about 475 million US dollars).
