OREANDA-NEWS. Operation of the Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft, suspended after the crash in Indonesia and Ethiopia, may be resumed in the fourth quarter of this year, Randy Tinset, vice president of marketing for Boeing, told reporters. "Now we plan that the aircraft will be returned to operation in the IV quarter of 2019", he said, adding that such terms have been agreed with the US aviation authorities.
In October 2018, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 of the Indonesian company Lion Air crashed into the Java Sea shortly after departure, killing all 189 people on board. The second crash with an airplane of this model occurred in March 2019 in Ethiopia, 157 people died in it. After the tragedy in Ethiopia, many large airlines, including the Russian S7, for safety reasons suspended the operation of the Boeing 737 max of various modifications, including 8 and 9.
Earlier, the American business newspaper wrote that the operation of the 737 MAX family liners could resume no earlier than the beginning of 2020, as the American air regulator supplemented the certification procedure with new tests. The publication also reported that Boeing may suspend the production of these aircraft if the regulator does not approve the resumption of operation before the end of the year. The loss of Boeing due to the suspension of the use of the aircraft and the delay in operation of the aircraft concern is estimated at $ 4.9 billion. Boeing management acknowledged that in both liners before the crash, the MCAS automatic control system failed.
Boeing has prepared a new 737 MAX airliner software, tests of which, according to the head of the concern, are successful. It's supposed, in particular, to update the systems used to determine the position of the nose of the aircraft relative to the horizon, as well as the correction of this position.
