OREANDA-NEWS  Chinese manufacturer of XPeng electric cars has begun construction of a center for research, development and production of flying cars in the city of Guangzhou in the south of China, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.

"The production base, built by order of XPENG AEROHT, which is a subsidiary of XPENG for the production of flying cars, will become the world's first factory for the mass production of flying cars," the report says.

In July, XPeng reported that the company had signed an agreement with Guangzhou Industrial Development Zone on investment and cooperation in the framework of the Xpeng Aeroht flying car project. The company clarified that at first, the factory for large-scale production of flying cars will produce flying modules.

According to Xinhua, the production capacity of the future project will be 10 thousand units per year.

Earlier, Vice President of XPeng Aeroht Wang Tan told RIA Novosti that XPeng plans to begin pre-sales of XPeng Aeroht, a modular car from the trunk of which a manned vehicle capable of lifting two people into the air, by the end of 2024. According to him, the owner of such a car will be able to "drive to some beautiful place, park, take the aircraft out of the trunk and fly." Wang Tan said that they intend to sell the car in China first, and in the future they will consistently promote it on the world market.

He noted that, according to preliminary estimates, the price of a modular flying car will be from 1 to 2 million yuan (138-276 thousand dollars). The company expects to start delivering to customers in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Xinhua notes that, according to expectations, by 2027 at least 5,000 enterprises in the field of low-altitude economy will operate in Beijing. The Chinese capital also intends to expand flight scenarios at low altitudes, including in the areas of air rescue and air express delivery.
