OREANDA-NEWS The container cargo transportation market in Russia may grow by 5-10 percent in physical terms by the end of 2024. This is reported by the Vedomosti newspaper with reference to market participants.
This year, the dynamics of the container market of the Russian Federation will largely be determined by the high base of 2023, experts believe. The Delo Group expects that container transshipment in Russian ports in 2024 may grow by 6-7 percent and reach a level of 5.3 million TEU (equivalent to a 20-foot container).
In turn, transshipment via the Russian Railways network by the end of December may increase by 4 percent, to 7.7 million TEU, said another source familiar with the forecasts of the state-owned company. Pavel Ivankin, head of the SIC "Transportation and Infrastructure", believes that the increase in rail container traffic will be at the level of 9.5 percent (up to 8.1 million TEU).
At the same time, the indicators include the transportation of loaded and empty containers and are not combined with each other. The latter is due to the fact that the same container can first be transshipped at the port and then shipped by rail.
Earlier, the Financial Times newspaper reported an increase in demand for rail transportation from Asia to Russia due to attacks by Yemeni Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. The DHL transport and logistics company said that requests for the transportation of goods through Russia have recently increased by about 40 percent.
