OREANDA-NEWS By the end of May, the export of passenger cars from China to Russia reached $1.3 billion, which was a record since November last year. RIA Novosti writes about this with reference to mutual trade data and its own calculations.

In general, the supply of passenger vehicles in this direction has been growing for the fourth month in a row. On a monthly basis, they increased by 11.7 percent, and by 65 percent compared to May last year. At the same time, Russia accounted for 16.4 percent of the total exports of the Chinese automotive industry, which amounts to 8.1 billion dollars.

Among other countries actively buying Chinese cars, Brazil (11.7 percent), Belgium (9.4 percent), Great Britain (6.5 percent) and Mexico (5.3 percent) follow Russia in terms of volume.

In March, Maxim Sokolov, president of AvtoVAZ, complained about the ongoing expansion of Chinese brands into Russia and called on the government to take measures, for example, to raise the recycling fee again or conduct public procurement. According to him, the current conditions contribute to the fact that cars from China are winning the competition and are starting to enter even the traditional Lada segments.
