OREANDA-NEWS Over the seven months of 2023, passenger car production volumes decreased in Russia. The output fell to 244 thousand new cars, which is 18.6 percent lower than last year, according to the agency "Autostat".
In July 2023, the situation changed: in annual terms, Russian enterprises collected 2.1 times more cars (47 thousand units). AvtoVAZ's performance grew the most: it produced 31,950 cars, which was the best result since March 2022. Also among the leaders were UAZ, Moskvich, as well as the Sollers plant in Vladivostok, where, after the restart, the assembly of pickups under its own brand began. Earlier it became known about the restart of production at the former Volkswagen automobile plant in Kaluga. The company, once owned by a German concern, will begin work by the end of 2023, promised the vice president of AGR Automotive Group (former Volkswagen Group Rus) Lubomir Naiman. According to him, the plant will produce models under different brands, including new ones.
Moskvich also promised to expand the model range of cars. In addition to the Moskvich 3 and Moskvich 3e crossovers, which are already available for sale, the automobile plant will release two new models in 2024.
According to the association "Russian Automobile Dealers" (ROAD), 950 thousand new passenger cars will be sold in Russia in 2023, and sales growth in annual terms will be 40 percent. Taking into account used cars, seven million cars will be sold in 12 months, said the head of the association Alexey Podschekoldin.
