OREANDA-NEWS. The trawler of the Murmansk trawler fleet "Rider Harbor", burning for 22 hours in Tromsø, sank, capsizing on Thursday near the pier. This follows from the broadcast channel.
Above the water, only the starboard side of the vessel is visible, smoke is noticeable. A boat with a water cannon continues to work nearby. "The ship is at the bottom. Smoke has become less intense, but there is a danger of water pollution by diesel fuel. The Port Authority and the Coast Guard are working on the spot because of a possible explosion threat", said police spokesman Ole Saverud.
The first reports of smoke on the trawler came at about 11:00 local time (12:00 Moscow time) on Tuesday. As the shipowner Murmansk Trawl Fleet told the Russian media, the trawler entered the Norwegian port to change crew and scheduled repairs, during which a fire occurred. According to the Norwegian firefighters, fishing nets caught fire during welding. Hydraulic oil and plastic burned on board.
Previously, the authorities were afraid of a possible explosion - on board the trawler there were 200 thousand liters of diesel fuel and a tank with ammonia. On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, firefighters established a safety zone around the trawler and evacuated more than 90 people within a radius of 300 m from the pier. Local authorities have restricted traffic in the city due to smoke and the threat of an explosion.
According to the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kirkenes, none of the Russian sailors were injured. All 29 crew members were evacuated. Only two of them remained under observation at the University Hospital, a medical institution said. The ship "Cove Rider", on which an emergency occurred, is a medium fishing trawler freezer type "Stercoder". It was built in 1991 in Norway. Displacement is 2878 tons, length - 64 m, total crew - 46 people. The vessel specializes in haddock and cod fishing in the North East Atlantic.
