Boeing 737 Lost Status of Best-Selling Aircraft in the World
Source: OREANDA-NEWS
OREANDA-NEWS. Boeing 737 fell from the first line of the ranking of the best-selling aircraft in the world, it was beaten by the A320, produced by the Airbus consortium. The main cause was two crashes with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in Indonesia and Ethiopia. About this writes Business Insider with reference to reports on sales of liners.
According to the publication, for the past 55 years, the Boeing 737 was the best-selling aircraft in the world, but by the end of October, the Airbus A320 bypassed it in this indicator. According to reports, Boeing at that time received an order for 15,136 aircraft of the 737 family, and Airbus concluded contracts for the sale of 15,193 aircraft of the A320 family. This was facilitated by the crisis that began at Boeing in April this year, after the company suspended the flights of 737 MAX amid two disasters.
Over the past few years, Airbus has narrowed the gap with Boeing in terms of sales, especially after it introduced the latest version of the A320neo, which began earlier than the Boeing 737 MAX. Nevertheless, at the end of 2018, the Airbus A320 was behind in sales by Boeing 737 by more than 400 aircraft.
