OREANDA-NEWS Customs control of goods on the Belarusian-Russian border will be strengthened, Chairman of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of the Republic Vladimir Orlovsky told the Belarus 1 TV channel.

"Inspection equipment is available at checkpoints on the western border and is traditionally widely used. Cars, both trucks and passenger cars, and citizens' luggage are scanned. We have been using it for a long time and very effectively. Recently, we have been extending this experience to scanning cargo that travels from the eastern direction," he said.

"So far we are doing this in Minsk, but we plan to place such scanners in our eastern customs offices in the Vitebsk region, Mogilev region in the near future," he added.

Orlovsky explained that such a decision was made, "because most of the goods are now crossing the Russian-Belarusian border. Although the goods are foreign, they are imported through the Russian section. Therefore, we are also working on this direction."
