OREANDA-NEWS. The Belarusian operator of the Gomeltransneft Druzhba oil trunk pipeline is almost ready to supply Azerbaijani oil to the Mozyr oil refinery from Ukraine via the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline. This was announced to the Russian media on Thursday by the chief engineer of Gomeltransneft Druzhba Andrei Verigo.
"This is a normal transportation process. The operator in Ukraine is Ukrtransnafta, it maintains all equipment in good condition. The pipeline has never been decommissioned, it's filled with process oil and is ready for operation", Verigo said. According to him, back in 2011, the Belarusian side was transporting oil from Odessa, from the Black Sea. "The system then worked, our pipeline system is ready to work now", Verigo said. He confirmed that oil supplies to Belarus are planned to begin in March upon the arrival of tankers at the Odessa port.
Contracts for the supply of Russian oil to Belarus ended on December 31, 2019. Since then, the parties have been negotiating for their extension. The Odessa-Brody oil pipeline was built in 2001 between the city of Odessa on the Black Sea and the city of Brody in the Lviv region, where it was docked with the Druzhba oil pipeline. It was supposed to transport Caspian and Kazakhstani oil from the Yuzhny port near Odessa to the refineries of Eastern and Central Europe and to Northern Europe via the Gdansk port.
