DHL Supply Chain has acquired a 100 percent stake of MIT Safetrans
OREANDA-NEWS. DHL Supply Chain, the contract logistics specialist within Deutsche Post DHL Group, has acquired a 100 percent stake of MIT Safetrans, the leading Italian logistics provider for highly specialized and high added-value niche markets. The transaction forms the leading logistics player for the technological, hi-tech and life sciences and healthcare industry in Italy. DHL Supply Chain Italy adds 20 operating sites to its network, boosting the company's presence in Italy to over 800 colleagues and approximately 60 facilities. It is the second purchase of similar type in Italy after acquiring Eurodifarm in 2011. Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.
"The acquisition's strategic value is twofold for us: on the one hand it allows us to extend our services, competences and targets. On the other hand, it allows us to transfer the know-how we have developed in highly specialized and innovative niches into all the other sectors, further fostering our leading position. We are now aiming to assert ourselves as an operator with the largest portfolio of added-value services capable of satisfying the most demanding companies. The realization of this project further confirms the trust Deutsche Post DHL Group has in Italy," said Eddy De Vita, President and CEO of DHL Supply Chain Italy.
MIT, established in 1983, operates in all sectors where technology is present, among them hi-tech, pharmaceuticals, banking and vending. The distribution network comprises about 20 logistics centers through which MIT provides highly specialized pre- and post-delivery equipment services. These range from commissioning magnetic resonance machines to ATMs to Biolab services for the sanitation of medicinal products. MIT is also market leader in the highly specialized distribution of life-saving products such as radiopharmaceuticals. In 2015, the company reported revenues of 48 million Euros and an EBITDA of 6 million Euros, confirming a constant growth in income and revenue over the last few years.
Through the transaction DHL Supply Chain Italy will be able to develop new competencies and extend its high added-value services portfolio. Thanks to MIT's know-how and agile structure, the Group is allowing its clients to outsource technical services to a single, trustworthy and specialized operator.
