Long-distance Passenger Traffic on Russian Railways' Network up 5.6%
OREANDA-NEWS. According to the latest figures, the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways carried 92.3 million passengers in September 2016, 2.9% more than in September 2015.
Suburban passenger numbers were up 2.6% and amounted to 83.8 million, while long-distance passengers rose to 8.5 million, an increase of 5.6%.
Passenger turnover in September totaled 11.2 billion passenger-kilometres, 6% more than in September 2015.
Passenger turnover on long-distance routes in September 2016 was 8.4 billion passenger-km, an increase of 8%, while suburban turnover reached 2.8 billion passenger-km, up 0.5%.
During January-September 2016, a total of 765.1 million passengers travelled, a decline of 0.4% compared to January-September 2015. Long-distance passengers amounted to 79.3 million, a rise of 4.4%, while suburban numbers fell to 685.8 million, a decline of 0.9%.
