OREANDA-NEWS.  Volkswagen has issued a global recall for approx. 5,900 Touran EcoFuel vehicles from model years 2006 to 2009, of which approx. 3,800 are in Germany. The campaign will replace the front gas bottles at service centers as a precautionary measure. On some of these vehicles, the outer skin may possibly no longer provide the necessary corrosion protection due to damage caused by external influences. Therefore vehicles should only be used in petrol mode until service. Fitting will be carried out at authorized Volkswagen service centers.

The problem was detected during internal tests and has already been rectified in current production. A reduction of the gas bottle’s wall thickness can lead to its bursting and therefore implicate serious injury.
