IRU joins ITF global Decarbonising Transport project
OREANDA-NEWS. May 23, 2016. IRU has signed up to a major new project launched by the International Transport Forum (ITF) aimed at ending the transport sector’s reliance on hydro-carbon fuels. The Decarbonising Transport project will help the transport sector meet its obligations as part of the COP21 global Paris Agreement to tackle climate change. It also supports the aims of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The project seeks to achieve zero transport emissions by 2050 by establishing a comprehensive modelling framework, analysis and feedback of carbon reduction efforts and a pooling of expert knowledge. The IRU Commercial Vehicle of the Future initiative is already investigating how to achieve significant CO2 reductions by 2030 and 2050.
IRU looks forward to working within the ITF led project with its extremely ambitious target. IRU will benefit from involvement by having the opportunity to participate actively in defining transport’s path to carbon neutrality as well as receiving feedback on how our own plans and targets are contributing to decarbonising transport.
