Tesla employee describes new Roadster
Electrek drew our attention to a Swedish interview with the manager of Tesla's Nordic operations, Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen. "We would have loved to build more [Roadsters], but if no one other than you would be listening right now, then I'd probably tell you that we will manufacture it again. It will look a little different, a little faster and a little bigger," Bardenfleth-Hansen said in the interview.
This goes one step further than Elon Musk's comment last year that the next-generation Roadster would come about in four years' time. As Electrek notes, production of any future Roadster will likely have to wait until Tesla starts work on the Model 3, the new sedan that it's thrown all its effort behind. The two will likely use the same platform, making this the first Roadster that Tesla makes on its own since the current model is Lotus-based.
While we all wait with bated breath for a new two-seat electric sports car, current owners can get a bit of upgrading to their existing ride. For the low, low cost of \\$29,000 (including labor), Tesla will replace the Roadster's 56-kWh battery with a handmade 70-kWh unit. A little extra range never hurts...anything except the wallet, that is.
