“Latvian Shipping Company” scholarship for the growth of Latvian maritime
OREANDA-NEWS. On Thursday, May 5, the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” Robert Kirkup, the Chairman of the Management Board of “LSC Shipmanagement” Ltd Alastair James McKee, the Administrative Director of “LSC Shipmanagement” Ltd Ilze Bērziņa and Member of the Management Board of the establishment “Vītolu fonds” Artūrs Dzenis met with students of the Latvian Maritime Academy: Indra Annija Cekule, Ieva Skrebele and Arturs Spirins who successfully received scholarship from JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” in 2015. At the meeting, schoolwork of the students at the Latvian Maritime Academy was approved of, as well as their willingness to continue their professional career in the seafaring industry.
“The purpose of granting scholarship is to give students financial support, thereby promoting not only their growth but also seafaring education in Latvia. We gladly do this patron work and will continue that in the future. It is important that the provided support to the young people has been useful and has helped them become high-level ship employees,” says the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” Robert Kirkup.
Scholarship holder Indra Annija Cekula says: “I would like to say a big thank you to JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” for an opportunity to be one of the scholarship holders. Not only is the financial part important, but also the feeling of elation and pride that I experienced when receiving the scholarship. The scholarship is like a salary for a job well done, to broaden by knowledge and accumulate work experience.”
Also the Chairperson of Management Board of the establishment “Vītolu fonds” Vita Diķe acknowledged: “Our biggest national treasure is the people – their mind, knowledge, creativity and attitude towards their every responsibility. A big thank you to JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” for the investment into Latvian education, thank you for cooperation!”
JSC “Latvian Shipping Company” is planning to grant scholarships to future seafarers also in the next school year. The goal of granting scholarships is to give students financial support, promote the growth of young people and development of seafaring in Latvia.
