OREANDA-NEWS  At the beginning of 2025, 700,000 new cars accumulated in the warehouses of Russian car dealers, which has not been observed for a very long time. For comparison: a year earlier, dealers had only about 400,000 units in stock. This is reported by RBC with reference to a source in the car market.

Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom Group, gives a similar estimate of the balances, and Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat agency, talks about 600 thousand. According to him, this is a record figure since at least 2020, when the market faced logistical problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The interlocutor of the publication notes that car dealers have approximately equal numbers of domestic and foreign cars — 52 percent versus 48, respectively. However, Tselikov points out that Chinese passenger cars account for 400 thousand units, and 100 thousand are occupied by Russian brands. The remaining 100,000 vehicles are commercial vehicles, medium and heavy trucks and buses.

Based on sales in November and December, the available volumes will be enough for four to five months of this year, Andrey Terlyukevich, CEO of Avtospeccenter Group, estimated.

The head of Autostat explained that the last time comparable overstocking in Russia could be observed was during the global financial crisis in the decade before last. Then sales halved, from 3 million in 2008 to 1.46 million in 2009.
