Work on A64 at Rillington finishes ahead of schedule
OREANDA-NEWS Drivers on the A64 in North Yorkshire will benefit from an improved road surface this week when work on a 2 mile section at Rillington will be completed ahead of schedule.
Two sections of the A64 were being resurfaced by Highways England as part of a £2 million scheme. There were overnight closures between West Knapton and East Knapton which were due to be completed this Friday but instead have finished a week earlier.
And resurfacing between Rillington and West Knapton which required 3 weekend closures will be completed early, meaning this weekend’s closure has been cancelled.
Over the past 2 weekends Highways England contractors have replaced more than 6,400 tonnes of resurfacing and replaced 800 reflective road studs as part of the scheme.
Highways England project manager Adeeb Saeed said:
This is great news for drivers who use this part of the A64 as we have cancelled this weekend’s closure which would have closed this section from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday. Instead work will be completed on Wednesday evening (7 December) overnight between 8pm and 6am and temporary traffic signals will be in place.
Thanks to their hard work it has meant that the impact on drivers has been significantly reduced and we have been able to lift the weekend closures earlier than expected.
To keep disruption to a minimum for drivers Ryedale District Council also used the closures as an opportunity to pick litter and sweep the carriageway.
