OREANDA-NEWS. August 25, 2016. Vietnam is showing an interest in the economic benefits of implementing TIR, following China’s recent accession to the TIR Convention.  China is the biggest trading partner of Vietnam.

IRU welcomed a delegation from Vietnam this week including, Mr Nguyen Cam Tu, Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Commercial from the Socialist Republic of  Vietnam, along with his delegates, for a briefing on transport and trade facilitation.

The Deputy Minister was interested in the economic benefits of implementing TIR, and showed particular interest in the findings of the scientific study on the economic benefits of TIR in UNESCAP countries – as implementing TIR could increase the national GDP of those countries.  In this regard, the Deputy Minister offered his support to IRU to help facilitate coordination with ASEAN countries to further promote the geographical expansion of TIR.

The meeting specifically focused on IRU’s work on customs issues, and included a knowledge sharing session on effective cooperation with customs authorities and other stakeholders.
