Aeroflot Group Passenger Traffic Up 14.5% In March 2017
OREANDA-NEWS. Moscow, 26 April 2017 – Aeroflot PJSC (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) today announces operating results for Aeroflot Group ("the Group") and Aeroflot – Russian Airlines ("the Company") for March and the first three months of 2017.
3M 2017 Operating Highlights
In the first three months of 2017, Aeroflot Group carried 10.3 million passengers, up 14.2% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline carried 7.0 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%.
Group and Company RPKs increased by 17.0% and 12.0% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs rose by 14.5% year-on-year for Aeroflot Group and by 10.3% for Aeroflot airline.
The passenger load factor increased by 1.6 p.p. year-on-year to 78.0% for the Group and by 1.2 p.p. year-on-year to 77.7% for the Company.
March 2017 Operating Highlights
In March 2017, Aeroflot Group carried 3.7 million passengers, up 14.5% year-on-year. Aeroflot airline carried 2.5 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 11.8%.
Group and Company RPKs increased by 16.7% and 10.8% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs rose by 15.5% year-on-year for Aeroflot Group and by 10.1% for Aeroflot airline.
On domestic routes, Group passengers carried and RPKs grew by 9.5% and 9.7% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs grew by 14.9% year-on-year. Company passengers carried and RPKs on domestic routes were up 8.3% and 4.0% year-on-year, respectively. ASKs grew by 8.1%.
In March 2017, the number of passengers carried on the Group’s international routes increased by 21.7% year-on-year. RPKs increased by 21.6%, while capacity grew by 16.0%. The number of passengers carried by Aeroflot airline on international routes increased by 15.2%. RPKs increased by 14.4%, and ASKs by 11.1%. Growth in the international segment was driven by the stable macroeconomic situation, increased flight frequencies and the launch of flights to new international destinations, as well as the development of Rossiya’s charter programme and of Pobeda’s international route network.
As a result of these factors, the passenger load factor increased by 0.8 p.p. year-on-year to 79.7% for the Group and by 0.5 p.p. year-on-year to 79.5% for the Company.
Fleet Update
In March 2017, the Group added two Boeing 737-800. One Airbus A320 was phased out of the Aeroflot Group fleet and two An-148 were subleased. As of 31 March 2017 the Group had 291 aircraft (excluding one An-24 which was leased out and five An-148 which were subleased).
Aeroflot Airline added two Boeing 737-800. One Airbus A320 was phased out, bringing the total fleet to 191 aircraft as of 31 March 2017.
