OREANDA-NEWS Recently, there has been a shortage of cork oak corks in Russia, which are used in champagne bottles. This is reported by Baza with reference to several wine producers at once.

According to them, the problems arose because of the next sanctions. Previously, traffic jams were imported from Europe, but now we have to buy them in Turkey and Cyprus, and 20-30 percent more expensive than before. So next year champagne will inevitably rise in price.

At the same time, experts do not exclude that in the future bottles with stoppers will remain only in the upper price segment, and plastic stoppers or aluminum screws will be used for ordinary varieties.

Another significant problem is oak barrels for aging wines. Due to sanctions and shortages, they have to be replaced with aluminum ones, which affects the taste and aroma. Also, some manufacturers are faced with a shortage of bottles with good glass, although this usually concerns the premium segment.

Earlier, Crimean producers warned that they could soon increase wholesale wine prices from 3 to 15 percent due to rising prices for logistics and wine materials.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Turkey increased the supply of champagne to Russia by 182 percent. At the same time, the country has dramatically increased purchases in France. A similar situation is observed in the UAE, which bought 75 percent more champagne than in 2021.
