OREANDA-NEWS The Indian authorities will continue to restrict the export of sugar from the country after October 31, 2023. This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to the corresponding notification of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade of the Asian country.
The exact size of quotas (if any) for foreign supplies was not disclosed in the department. In 2022-2023, India limited sugar exports abroad to about six million tons due to a reduction in domestic production due to late rains. In 2021-2022, the total export of these products from the Asian country was estimated at 11 million tons.
Experts believe that the extension of export restrictions by India may negatively affect global supplies. The state is the second largest producer of sugar. A significant reduction in the supply of sweetener can hit manufacturers of carbonated drinks, chocolate, pastries and other popular products, the cost of production of which is at risk of rising.
