The US has become the second largest grain seller in the EU

OREANDA-NEWS In September, the United States was able to rise to second place in the ranking of the largest grain suppliers to the European Union in monetary terms against the background of the introduction by the EU of increased duties on its import from Russia, RIA Novosti calculated according to Eurostat.
Since July 1, the European Union has imposed increased duties on the import of cereals, oilseeds and products of their processing from Russia and Belarus. Depending on the specific product, the duties increased either to 95 euros per ton of products imported into the European Union, or to 50%. After that, in July, imports decreased fourfold compared to June - to 2.9 million euros, and in August it amounted to 3.7 million euros.
In general, in September, the EU increased imports of grain crops from abroad by 6.6% compared to August - up to 724.4 million euros. The largest supplier in monetary terms, as well as a month earlier, was Ukraine, which in September increased shipments by 7.5% to 234.9 million euros. The country accounts for almost a third of the EU's grain imports.
In second place in the ranking of the largest suppliers in September were the States, which a month earlier were only fourth in the list: their September shipments almost tripled to 132.3 million euros, providing more than 18% of European imports. Brazil (13.5% of imports), Pakistan (4.3%) and Thailand (4.1%) are next in the list of the EU's most prominent trading partners.
