OREANDA-NEWS In January 2025, the supply of wines from the European Union to Russia dropped sharply. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to Eurostat data.
In annual terms, wine imports from European countries have halved, with shipments dropping from 13.3 to 6.5 thousand tons. The cost of the imported drink has decreased by almost 40 percent — 25.3 million euros against 41.2 million in the first month of 2024.
The most noticeable decrease was in the supply of Italian wines — by 2.9 times, to 2.3 thousand tons. Germany is in second place in terms of falling volumes with an indicator of 543 tons, and Spain is in third place with 438 tons.
At the same time, a number of countries have increased shipments. Thus, the import of French wines increased by more than 40 percent, to 119 tons, and Latvian wines — by 7.3 percent, to 191 tons.
Since the beginning of 2025, Georgia, which is one of the main wine exporters to Russia, has sharply reduced the supply of beverages. According to the National Statistics Service of the Republic, in January-February, about 5.6 thousand tons of wine were shipped from Georgia to the Russian Federation, 2.3 times less in annual terms. Analysts estimated the total cost of supplies at $ 16 million. In 12 months, the figure has more than doubled, or by almost 20 million in monetary terms.
