The State Duma Will Raise the Issue of Banning Wine from Georgia
OREANDA-NEWS On Monday, July 8, State Duma deputies from United Russia will raise the issue of imposing a number of restrictions on Georgia at the chamber’s council, its head Sergei Neverov said at a meeting of the United Russia faction.
“Today at the State Duma’s council we will raise the issue of stopping supplies of wine and water from Georgia and banning remittances to the Republic of Georgia,” said the parliamentarian, TASS quoted him as saying.
Neverov also asked to further discuss this issue in the committees, reports RIA Novosti.
As the politician explained, Russophobic sentiments are still present in Georgia, in particular, various “outrageous elements” attack Russian tourists and tear down St. George ribbons.
On June 20, mass protests began in Tbilisi. The reason was that during the session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (MAP), the Russian delegate Sergei Gavrilov was seated in the chair of the Georgian parliament. The situation has caused discontent of a number of political parties.
Later, riots broke out in the center of Tbilisi, during which 240 people were injured. More than 300 were detained.
