OREANDA-NEWS  The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology (Ministry of Natural Resources) has restricted the import of air conditioners and refrigerators to Russia, tightening the requirements for the import of such household appliances. This is reported by RBC with reference to market participants.

The tightening affected products with refrigerants (or refrigerating agents). They are freon or a mixture of other gases with certain characteristics. It is due to this component that the air is cooled and the optimal temperature regime is maintained.

However, on October 8, the ministry announced stricter requirements for the import of household appliances with refrigerants into Russia. According to the innovations, importers will need permission from the Ministry of Natural Resources not only for the transportation of products with mono-substances, but also mixtures that previously did not require mandatory licensing.

Against this background, participants in the electronics and household appliances market warned about possible problems with the supply of air conditioners and refrigerators to Russia. The Association of Trading Companies and Manufacturers of Household and Computer Equipment (RATEK) reported that now importers will have to issue a license for 90 percent of air conditioners. As for refrigerators, the share of such household appliances using freon 410 is now up to 50 percent. Without an import permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources, such refrigerators and air conditioners cannot be imported into Russia, since "the decision has already entered into force," Marvel Distribution concluded.

Earlier it was reported that manufacturers of Electrolux and Groupe SEB appliances (Tefal, Braun, Rowenta brands) began to actively block the supply of their products to Russia through parallel imports. In particular, Western companies began to sign a moratorium on the re-export of electronics to the Russian Federation with partners in other countries. At the same time, as Dmitry Levin, managing director of the Large Household Appliances department of Marvel Distribution, clarified, the Swedish manufacturer Electrolux is trying to block the placement of its products even on marketplaces.
