OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of the first quarter of the 2024-2025 agricultural season, Egypt turned out to be the leader in purchases of Russian grain. This is reported in the Telegram channel of the Union of Grain Exporters (SEZ).

It is noted that in July-September, the African country purchased a total of 2.908 million tons of grain from Russian agro-exporters. The achieved result was 40 percent higher compared to the same period in 2023. Of this volume, most of the imports came from wheat (2.884 million tons), the experts explained.

Saudi Arabia took the second place in terms of Russian grain imports, having purchased 1.391 million tons of grain during the reporting period. Iran closed the top three with a result of 1.264 million. Turkey (1.262 million) and Algeria (978,000) also entered the top 5. Apart from Egypt, experts named Morocco as the main points of supply growth (import growth by six times year-on-year), Nigeria (by 3.5 times), Kenya (by 35 percent) and Azerbaijan (by 12 percent).

Egypt retained its leadership in the procurement of Russian grain and according to the results of the first two months of the 2024-2025 agricultural season. In July-August, the African country purchased a total of 1,268 million tons from the Russian Federation. During the reporting period, Egypt was also the main buyer of wheat from Russia, importing 1.244 million tons of this type of agricultural products.
