OREANDA-NEWS  The government extended the ban on the export of raw rice and rice groats for another six months, until June 30, 2025, and lifted restrictions on shipments of rice seeds. According to the government's website, a corresponding decree has been signed.

The decision was made to maintain a stable supply of these products to the domestic market.

The ban does not apply to supplies to the EAEU countries, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Rice and rice groats can also be sent abroad for humanitarian aid and as part of international transit transportation.

In addition, taking into account requests from partner states for the supply of seed material, rice for sowing has been excluded from the temporary ban, the report says.

The proposal to extend the ban on the export of rice and rice groats was made by the Ministry of Agriculture. In an explanatory note, the agency reported that the production of raw rice in Russia is about 1 million tons annually. The forecast for 2024 is 1,158.4 thousand tons. In 2023, the harvest amounted to 1,066 thousand tons, in 2022 - 920.1 thousand tons, in 2021 - 1,076.4 thousand tons, in 2020 - 1,141.8 thousand tons, in 2019 - 1,098.7 thousand tons. The production of rice groats in 2024, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, will amount to 579.2 thousand tons. In 2023, 625.9 thousand tons were produced, in 2022 - 551.6 thousand tons, in 2021 - 515.5 thousand tons, in 2020 - 439.1 thousand tons, in 2019 - 385.6 thousand tons.

"The measures taken make it possible to prevent a shortage in the domestic market and ensure the stability of the price situation. Nevertheless, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, there is currently no surplus available for export, which is confirmed by the stable dynamics of stocks and prices," the document said.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the situation with rice seeds for sowing is currently stable and does not require additional regulation. Taking into account requests from partner States for the supply of seed material, the agency considered it possible to exclude rice seeds from the ban.
