OREANDA-NEWS. The closure of the airspace of the United States will jeopardize the evacuation of Russian tourists from the Caribbean, according to the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR), TASS reports.
“The closure of airspace by the United States puts additional obstacles to the export of Russian tourists located in the Caribbean (Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela),” ATOR said.
ATOR analysts claim that up to 6-8 thousand Russian citizens may currently be in Cuba, 3.5-4 thousand in Mexico, 5-6 thousand in the Dominican Republic. It is assumed that Russian airlines will need to take out from 16 up to 18 thousand Russian citizens.
Earlier, Rostourism urged not to sell tours to countries that have imposed sanctions against Russia. This is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the head of the department Zarina Doguzova.
The recommendation also applies to Caribbean countries, which can be reached through the closed airspace of the European Union, the United States and Canada.
“Tourists who have booked tours to countries inaccessible to travel are advised to contact the tour operator to select an alternative destination,” Doguzova said.
