OREANDA-NEWS Shipments of salmon species (including salmon, chum salmon, pink salmon, etc.) from Russia to China almost doubled in 2022, to 73,800 tons, compared to the year before last. Vedomosti writes about this with reference to the data of the All-Russian Association of Fishermen (VARPE).
In monetary terms, exports soared 2.5 times, to $249.9 million. The growth of external shipments occurred against the background of a reduction in production volumes. According to the results of the salmon fishing in 2022, 271 thousand tons of fish were caught, and in 2021 — 539 thousand tons.
In September, Rosrybolovstvo said that due to the low production forecast, it could initiate export restrictions. This led to an increase in the cost of fish, but no restrictions were imposed.
Deliveries to China and Russian crab have also increased (by 41 percent in kind). Because of the sanctions, significant markets - the United States and Europe — were closed for the miners of the Russian crab.
In the coming years, fish consumption in Russia will decrease by five to seven percent against the background of economic difficulties, and the demand for salmon will decrease the most, experts of the National Rating Agency (NRA) believe.
