OREANDA-NEWS   Large Russian retail chains have not recently benefited from the sale of chicken eggs, on the contrary, due to the negative margin, the position brings them a loss. This was announced by representatives of retailers at a meeting of the Agrarian Committee of the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports.

The cost of eggs in 2023 increased by more than one and a half times, which attracted the attention of the country's top leadership, after which the task was set to reduce prices for socially significant goods. At the beginning of 2024, according to Rosstat, the product fell in price by 2.58 percent.

Meanwhile, Pavel Shumov, head of the department for interaction with regional authorities of X5 Group, said that the purchase price of eggs has decreased by 15.8 percent since the beginning of the year, and retail by 15 percent. Thus, losses persist — a dozen eggs in the store costs 118 rubles, and purchases are carried out at a price of 127 rubles. If we talk about chicken meat, then at a purchase price of 177 rubles per kilogram, it is sold for 168 rubles.

Yulia Khramaikova, Director of interaction with government authorities at Magnit, confirmed that the network buys eggs for 115 rubles per dozen, and sells them for 113 rubles. According to her, long-term contacts could be a solution to the problem, but suppliers are reluctant to accept them. So far, only 15 out of 55 manufacturers have agreed.

At the beginning of last week, it was reported that 20 million eggs had been imported to Russia since the end of last year. Foreign suppliers took advantage of the zeroing of duties, which the authorities went to reduce tensions with the product. At the same time, producers indicated that they could not supply eggs cheaper due to rising costs, and the current cost was adequate.
