OREANDA-NEWS By the end of October, the total export volumes of Russian coal by sea decreased by 42 percent in annual terms and fell to 11.5 million tons. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the data of Kpler analysts.
Key fuel consumers from Russia — China and India — reduced purchases by 32 and 41 percent, respectively, to 4.4 and 1.1 million tons. Experts attributed a sharp reduction in imports from China to large coal reserves in the country. In the case of India, the dynamics was due to a decrease in activity in the local market due to the Diwali holiday on November 12. In general, according to the results of the ten months of 2023, the total volumes of Russian coal sea exports increased by two percent and amounted to 147 million tons, Kpler concluded.
In early September, Kommersant, citing Kpler data, reported a sharp increase in imports of Russian coal from Turkey. So, in January-August, this country purchased a total of 14.6 million tons of fuel from Russia (about 70 percent of all Turkish imports).
Experts explained such dynamics with discounts offered by Russian suppliers. Against this background, according to the results of the first eight months of 2023, the volume of supplies to Egypt also increased. In January-August, the total volume of sea exports of Russian coal to the Middle Eastern country soared by 60 percent and amounted to 464 thousand tons.
