OREANDA-NEWS  According to the results of the first nine months of 2024, sales of imported spirits in Russia have almost returned or even exceeded the figures of pre-crisis 2021. This is reported by Kommersant with reference to data from analysts.

So, in January-September, a total of 2.43 million dals of foreign whiskey were sold in the country. The achieved result was 28 percent higher compared to the same period in 2023 and 1.2 percent behind the level of three years ago. At the same time, back in 2023, this gap was almost 23 percent.

In turn, the sale of imported brandy in Russia during the reporting period increased by 38.5 percent compared to the level of January-September 2021 and amounted to 4.1 million dal. As for foreign rum, its sales in the country have increased by 13.1 percent over the past three years, to 822,000 dal.

Andrey Moskovsky, secretary of the Alcopro Guild, linked such dynamics primarily with the activation of Russian retail chains, which, after leaving the country, a number of foreign manufacturers began importing strong alcohol on their own. According to him, domestic retailers prefer to buy mainly the most well-known brands for consumers in large quantities, which allows them to count on "good turnover".

Earlier, experts from Rosalkogoltabakcontrol announced a noticeable increase in cognac sales in Russia. According to the results of January-August, the indicator increased by 5.5 percent year-on-year and amounted to 9.06 million dal. Sales of vodka during this period increased by 0.9 percent to 49.79 million. In general, sales of alcoholic beverages with a strength above 9 percent increased by 4.8 percent in the first eight months of 2024 and reached 78.16 million.
