OREANDA-NEWS From January 1 to June 15, 2024, sales of black caviar in Russia increased by 9 percent compared to the same period in 2023. A noticeable increase in demand is reported by RBC with reference to data from the Check Index resource, which is the operator of the fiscal data of the OFD Platform.

The OFD platform accounts for receipts from more than 1.1 million online sales registers in Russia. According to her data, the number of purchases of black caviar in the country in the first half of the year turned out to be 6 percent higher than in the same period of 2019. In addition, during this time, the volume of cans, which were most often chosen by customers, doubled.

In January-June 2024, not only the number of purchases of caviar increased, but also the spending of Russians on this delicacy. So, according to the results of the first half of the year, the indicator increased by 6 percent compared to the same period in 2023, to 2.9 thousand rubles. At the same time, the expenses of Muscovites for this product turned out to be almost three times more than those of residents of other Russian regions, and amounted to an average of 8.6 thousand.

Analysts explained this trend by a number of factors, including the absence of significant price increases and an increase in the production of sturgeon caviar in Russia. The increase in demand was also facilitated by the overall growth in the number of caviar consumers in the country against the background of a record harvest of salmon last year. Because of this, in particular, the availability of red caviar has increased, experts concluded.

The cost of red caviar in the second half of 2023 fell record-breaking. So, by mid-October, prices for this product in Russia dropped to a minimum since December 2022, to 6060 rubles. The head of Rosrybolovstvo, Ilya Shestakov, explained the drop in the cost of red caviar by an increase in fish production in the country.
