Russian wine has occupied more than half of the domestic market

OREANDA-NEWS Domestic winemaking has made a sharp leap forward in a few years. The industry has received unprecedented state support, and private investment has flowed. In stores, 55 percent of the assortment is already Russian products. Unique varieties are being created in the country, technologies are being honed, and a culture of wine consumption is being actively formed.
A corresponding federal project has been implemented since 2022. The main goal is to increase the area of vineyards in the fruiting age by 35 percent by 2030. Last year, 2.4 billion rubles were allocated to the project, this year — 3.5. In total, more than 25 were allocated.
Winemaking is one of the fastest growing branches of the economy, second only to the military—industrial complex, Dmitry Kiselyov, Chairman of the Board of the Association "Federal Self-Regulating Organization of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia" (AVVR), said at the wine forum. "In 2022, Russia produced 13 percent more wines than in 2021. This is a colossal result," he said.
According to Natalia Khudyakova, Managing Director of the Center for Macroeconomic and Regional Analysis and Forecasting of the Rosselkhoznadzor, wine consumption in the country in 2023 will reach 90 million decaliters. Moreover, more than half is accounted for by domestic.
